FLY KiDS Summer Camp
August 13-17, 2012

Each summer FLY KiDS hosts a summer camp at the Glass Recreation Center. We have closed the camp for 2012 to the public because for the last two years there have not been enough students to justify hiring the additional teachers necessary to have beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups.

This year our summer camp will be for FLY KiDS members and others dancers who want to become FLY KiDS members. Prospective FLY KiDS members will have to try out to be accepted for attending camp. If they attend camp, their performance at camp will serve as their audition for FLY KiDS.

In addition to hip hop movement skills and choreography to be taught by our hired summer camp teachers, director Kathy Wood will teach the choreography for new FLY KiDS performance pieces. She will be assisted by Rachel Huff.

Kathy is a professional dance instructor and choreographer who has produced many camps in her career. Rachel has a BA degree in dance from Stephen F. Austin State University. Our hip hop teachers come from Houston and are former FLY Dance Company dancers or other hip hop dancers we know well.

Who Can Attend

This year's camp is for current and prospective FLY KiDS members.

Dancers should be
9 to 16 years old.

Cost of Camp

The camp is FREE for current FLY KiDS members and prospective members who have been accepted at tryouts.

Daily Schedule

The camp is Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.

Water, lunch, and snacks will be provided.

There are three hours of instruction in the morning and afternoon teaching hip hop movement technique and choreography. Right after lunch, there is a daily free-style session where dancers can have fun and show new moves.

At the end of the day, there is an informal 30-minute program for parents, friends, donors, and sponsors to demonstrate what is being learned. On Friday at 3:00PM, there is a student concert open to the public and everyone is welcome.
