FLY Dance Company Background
The professional touring FLY Dance Company was shut down July 2006 after a long
and successful period rising from an unknown local group to a highly regarded dance company presented
throughout the U.S. and Europe. Its performances and image were fun and positive. It was pure
entertainment in the best sense—no gimmicks, just excellent concept, staging, choreography,
dancing, and acting—by those who loved what they were doing.
The FLYworks (the non-profit organization that supported FLY Dance Company)
mission then was to "utilize street dancers to develop a nationally recognized dance company
with unequaled community outreach." For five years, it was a reality.
The FLY style and tradition is the basis for the newly formed FLYworks, LLC's
activities in Tyler, Texas. We will be trying to pass on the essence of FLY Dance Company so that
this generation of FLY KiDS can learn about performing and entertaining and how rewarding it can be.
In the process, each dancer will grow in many ways.
There can never be another FLY Dance Company. So many stars had to align, so much
work to be done, and so many difficulties to be overcome. Many people played roles in its success:
the director, the dancers, the office staff, the board members, arts presenters, booking agents,
arts-supporting foundations, news media, and thousands upon thousands of enthusiastic audience members. |
